Vacuum Maintenance 101: Make Your Machine Last for Years
The best vacuums are built to last for many years, but only if they are cared for. The good news is that maintenance is simple and takes just a few minutes. Build these habits and your machine will reward you with strong suction and a long life.
Change the bag or empty the bin on time
Do not wait until it is overflowing. A vacuum loses suction well before the bag is completely full. Change bagged models when they are about two-thirds full, and empty bagless bins after every use.
Keep the filters fresh
Filters are the lungs of your vacuum. Check them regularly. Wash washable filters and let them dry completely before reinstalling, and replace filters that are not washable on the schedule in your manual.
Clear the brushroll
Hair, thread, and carpet fibers wrap around the brushroll and slow it down. Cut them away every few weeks with scissors. A clean roller cleans far better.
Check the belt
Belts stretch over time. If the brushroll seems weak or you notice less agitation on carpet, a fresh belt often restores it. We stock genuine belts for the brands we carry.
Watch for clogs
If suction drops suddenly, check the hose, wand, and inlet for blockages. A coin or a sock can hide in there and choke the airflow.
Bring your vacuum in once a year for a professional tune-up and it will keep running like the day you bought it. We carry the genuine bags, belts, and filters your machine needs to stay in top shape.
