5 Signs Your Vacuum Needs Service (Before You Replace It)
People are often surprised to learn that the vacuum they were about to throw away just needed a belt, a filter, or a good cleaning. A quality machine is an investment, and most problems are very fixable. Here are five signs it is time for service, not a trip to the landfill.
1. It is not picking up like it used to
Lost suction is usually a clog, a full bag, a worn filter, or a tired belt. All of these are quick, inexpensive fixes.
2. The brushroll is not spinning
If the roller has stopped turning, a stretched or broken belt is the most common culprit. Hair and string wrapped around the roller can also bind it up.
3. A burning or musty smell
A burning rubber smell often points to a slipping belt. A musty smell usually means it is time for a new bag or a filter change.
4. Strange noises or rattles
New rattles, whistles, or grinding sounds are worth checking before they turn into a bigger problem. Often it is something small caught in the airflow path.
5. It is just harder to use
Wheels that stick, a height adjustment that will not hold, or a cord that will not retract are all serviceable. You do not have to live with them.
